Green Valley
Green Valley is a well established (30 years ago) retirement community south of Tucson and Sahuarita. It is a bustling community of over 28,000 people who enjoy a wide range of activities from the many social activities to golf. Activities in between include fun such as bird watching, mountain biking, and hiking. There are twelve social centers located throughout Green Valley.
Green Valley has attempted to incorporate as a town several times and the topic always brings heated conversation. Today, the Green Valley Community Coordinating Council comprised of members from more than forty-five Home Owners Associations and twelve institutions act as a quasi governmental institution taking charge of their own affairs.
The Green Valley area boasts one of the best fire districts in the state. The Green Valley Fire District provides the finest fire protection and advanced life support. Ambulance service is provided by Southwest Ambulance to Tucson Hospitals. Several hospitals over the years have wanted to expand operations to this area of Pima County, however to date, none have done so.
Law enforcement function is provided by the Pima County Sheriffs Department. The Pima County Sheriff's Department is aided by a very active Sheriffs Auxillary staffed by volunteer members from the community. This auxillary patrols the streets, provides traffic control at events and incidents, and supplements the Deputies assigned to Green Valley. Overall, the community feels very safe in the hands of the Pima County Sheriff's Department and Green Valley Fire District.
